Dropping & Withdrawing

Listen

Adding, Dropping and Withdrawing definitions:

  • A course add includes initial registration, additional registration, or substituting one course for another; it must be completed by the term’s fifth business day.
  • A course drop occurs when a student removes a course from his/her schedule on or before the fifth business day of the term by the end of the business day, 4:30pm. This does not reflect on a student’s transcript and there are no associated fees.
  • A course withdrawal occurs when a student removes a course from his/her schedule after the fifth business day of the term. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with an advisor prior to withdrawing from courses. Students withdrawing during the withdrawal period receive a “W” on their transcript. While a “W” grade has no impact on the GPA calculation, it has a negative impact on percentage of completion used to evaluate Satisfactory Academic Progress for both academic and financial aid purposes. In addition, withdrawing from courses may have tuition and financial aid implications.

Adding or dropping a course can take place in e-Services. If you wish to withdraw from a course, you must make the request by calling our Student Services office at 320-222-5971 or emailing [email protected].

Dropping Courses

Impact on Transcript

A course dropped within the deadlines mentioned in the menu item below will not be reflected on a student’s transcript.

Course Drop Deadline

For courses that start the first week of the semester:

  • Students may drop these courses through the first five business days of the semester to receive a tuition adjustment. The course drop must be completed by the end of the business day, 4:30pm.
  • The deadline for Spring Semester is January 14, by the end of the business day, 4:30 p.m.

For courses that do not start the first week of the semester:

  • Students may attend one class and still retain the right to drop the course. Courses must be dropped within one business day following the first day of the class.
Tuition Reimbursement

Dropping a course may affect your financial aid, but you will not have associated fees if dropped within the course drop deadline. Please refer to the course drop deadlines in the item above.

Impact on Transcript & Other Important Items

While a “W” grade has no impact on the GPA calculation, it has a negative impact on the percentage of completion used to evaluate Satisfactory Academic Progress for both academic and financial aid purposes. In addition, withdrawing from courses may have tuition and financial aid implications.

Withdrawing from a course can impact financial aid, F1 visa status, health insurance, scholarships, and athletic eligibility. If you have questions about dropping or withdrawing from a course, please speak with your advisor.

Course Withdraw Deadline

The last day to withdraw is posted by viewing the detail of the course from the Course Schedule. Just click on the course title to view the detail. The dates are also posted on your printable course schedule from your eServices page. Click on “View/Modify Schedule”, then “Printable Schedule”.
