The duties of a legal administrative assistant vary, depending on the type of office in which the assistant works. Office duties may include answering the telephone, greeting clients, scheduling appointments, filing, posting attorney time and expenses to client files, preparing billings, and assisting attorneys during meetings. Legal administrative assistants transcribe and/or compose documents and letters involved in civil and criminal litigation, probate, real estate, corporate and domestic matters. Attorneys tend to rely heavily on their assistants to keep them informed of upcoming events and deadlines, to follow up on items, and to assist them in a variety of other ways.
