Computer Aided Drafting and Design is the process of visualizing and developing three-dimensional drawings that production workers use to fabricate parts and assemble products. Any company that designs and manufactures its products will employ design technicians. Job situations exist in cities and rural communities, large industries, and small companies.
Most graduates will start in a detail drawing position. The detailer takes the ideas of a designer or engineer and transforms them into drawings. Based on these drawings, parts are fabricated and products assembled. After gaining on-the-job experience, a person may advance within the company. Positions in manufacturing companies include design technicians, designers, engineering aides, technical illustrators, sales engineers, purchasing agents, numerical control programmers, engineers, and management.
