Health Information Technology Instructor
Allied Health - Health Information Technology
I began working in the Health Information Management field at HealthPartners in St. Paul after attending the medical secretarial program at St. Paul College. My education continued with the HIT program at Rochester Community and Technical College and obtaining my RHIT certification. Eventually, I obtained my BS from Metropolitan State University in organizational development. I’m a first-generation college student who always worked full-time while attending school, so I have a lot of empathy for students who have busy schedules.
Career-wise, I began as a transcriptionist, became a coordinator, then supervisor, then manager, and eventually HIM director. Currently, I work full-time as an HIM director for a large healthcare system with 13 hospitals and more than 60 clinics. I teach part-time and really enjoy helping students succeed. Being flexible and adapting to change is a must in the fast-paced world of healthcare. I’m never bored with my work, and since I love to learn, the opportunities for ongoing learning in the HIM profession is one of my favorite aspects of this career field.
