Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Training
Truck Driver (CDL)Training
Customized Training at Ridgewater College provides a comprehensive Truck Driver Training program for individuals looking to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Our program meets all of the requirements established by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for Entry Level Driver Training.
CDL Training at Ridgewater College is a unique blend of online and hands-on training that prepares students to pass the State CDL exams (written and driving) by delivering a very high-quality training experience in a convenient and efficient program structure. Our model focuses on developing competency to perform the tasks required of a commercial vehicle operator instead of meeting a required number of hours. We also complete the hands-on portion of the training in an individualized setting, with one student meeting with one instructor. This one-on-one model ensures that the student is actively learning during their time spent with the instructor, and allows us to focus on the specific areas each student needs to work on in order to pass the state driving examination.
Our program is comprised of two individual classes:
CDL Knowledge and Theory:
This portion of the CDL training program is delivered 100% online, and will cover the 30+ core curriculum areas identified by the Department of Transportation. Students will explore the knowledge components of commercial motor vehicle operation in short modules, with assessments at the end of each section. This, along with additional online resources and some live online time with a qualified instructor will prepare students to take and pass the MN written CDL permit exam.
CDL Road and Range:
Upon completion of the Knowledge and Theory course, and issuance of a driver’s permit, students will be scheduled for the road and range portion of the training program. Training will take place on our approved range, as well as our established road course. Our course is designed to provide students with the skills necessary to drive both manual and automatic transmissions. Successful students will be able to demonstrate competency in all areas of vehicle operation assessed by the standard MN CDL A driver’s examination, including pre-trip inspection, shifting, backing maneuvers, turning, parallel parking, emergencies, extreme driving conditions, logbooks, load securement and more! Students will train in 4-hour blocks and will utilize a college truck and instructor to schedule and take the driving exam.
