Customized Training and Continuing Education at Ridgewater College is known across the upper Midwest for providing outstanding EMS training options.  This program is renowned for delivering value and flexibility in a training program, with several options to choose from.  Ambulance services, fire departments, law enforcement agencies, rescue services and large industrial facilities all look to Customized Training at Ridgewater to ensure their emergency squads have the knowledge and skill necessary to save lives.

As an approved education provider with the EMSRB and National Registry, we provide initial training for both EMR’s and EMT’s. Our flexible hybrid format combines high-quality online classroom education with intensive hands-on skills training to ensure that our students are prepared to pass both their written exams as well as their psychomotor skills exams and enter the industry with confidence and passion. As an added bonus, EMR’s looking to become EMT’s can take advantage of our EMT Bridge program!

Customized Training offers a tremendous variety of refresher programs for emergency medical personnel of all levels as well. Our famous “44 plans” ensure you meet the recertification requirements of the MN EMSRB with 4 hour classes scheduled through the year on your training nights. We can also provide “one time” EMR and EMT refresher programs – intensive one or two-day training sessions that complete all of your bi-annual CE requirement at one time. You can even complete missing recertification topics online on a class-by-class basis if you are in a pinch!

In any case, we will ensure that your programming is customized to your service needs, while also meeting mandates such as NCCP topical requirements. Most importantly, our value-add service keep track of training completed for everyone on your roster, and will help you through the recertification process each year. This level of customer service has made us an invaluable partner for EMS services across the state!

Emergency Medical Services Training Programs

Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)

This foundational EMS course trains participants to provide immediate lifesaving care until more advanced personnel arrive. Topics include patient assessment, airway management, CPR, bleeding control, and emergency scene management. The course meets the Minnesota EMSRB and NREMT standards for EMR certification and includes written and practical testing. Law Enforcement Note: Our EMR course is POST Board approved and count toward continuing education requirements for officers.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Designed for individuals pursuing entry-level certification as an EMT, this course combines classroom, lab, and clinical instruction to prepare students for real-world emergency response. Learners gain skills in airway and cardiac management, trauma assessment, patient movement, and medical emergencies. Graduates are eligible to take the National Registry EMT exam.

EMR to EMT Bridge

This accelerated training option allows currently certified Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs) to advance to the EMT level. The course builds on existing EMR knowledge while focusing on advanced airway techniques, trauma management, and ambulance operations. Successful completion qualifies students to test for NREMT EMT certification.
