Placement into college level English or Math courses will be based on placement scores from Accuplacer*, ACT, SAT, MCA and/or high school GPA.
*Due to COVID-19 Ridgewater College has suspended Accuplacer testing until further notice.
Ridgewater College requires students to provide test scores from either the ACT or SAT to prove they’re college ready. If a student does not have the required test scores, or has yet to take the ACT/SAT, they may take Accuplacer’s reading exam. Math is needed only in rare cases and students will be notified in advance if they need this exam.
For schools within a 45 mile radius of either the Willmar or Hutchinson campus, students are strongly encouraged to take the Accuplacer on campus. There is no cost for taking the exam and evening sessions are available. For high schools more than 45 miles away, remote testing can be arranged. If a student needs to retake the exam, a $10 retake fee will be charged and is due at the time of the exam.
Students will need to bring a photo ID at the time of the exam. After they finish, they’ll meet one-on-one with an academic advisor who will discuss their test scores and talk about best practices for taking a College in the Schools course.
