Placement Testing
College in the Schools (CIS) courses follow the same admissions requirements as the Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program. As a result, most CIS students are not required to take the Accuplacer exam. However, high school seniors with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 to 2.59 will need to take the reading portion of the Accuplacer exam if they wish to participate in the CIS program. The Accuplacer math exam is needed only in rare cases. Students will be notified if they need either exam.
Test Locations and Appointments
For schools within a 45 mile radius of either the Willmar or Hutchinson campus, students who require the Accuplacer are strongly encouraged to take it on campus. Test centers are available at both campuses, and students may select the location that is most convenient for them. There is no cost for taking the Accuplacer exam, but appointments are required. Appointments should only be scheduled after the student receives a notification that the test is required.
Students requiring the Accuplacer will need to bring a photo ID at the time of the exam. After they finish, they’ll meet with an academic advisor to discuss their test scores and best practices for taking a College in the Schools course. If a student needs to retake the exam, a $10 retake fee will be charged and is due at the time of the exam.
For students at high schools more than 45 miles away from our campuses, remote testing can be arranged.
